I read this book for a Read-alike list and generally am not a mystery fan. Probably because if my reading is spread out, I lose track of the clues. That is what happened here but it was still a good book. The main character is trying to recover from the death of a friend and the circumstances surrounding it. He and two other schoolmates bond over their volunteer duty at a local cemetery. Their training for the job is more involved and, unexpectedly, interesting than he expected. They discover a mystery puzzle they try to solve. Solving it brings unexpected benefits. The story outside the mystery is engrossing. The three schoolmates, who become friends, are quite likable. Supporting characters have depth to them.
On a complete aside, a great explanation on the whys and whynots of book donations to libraries. ( )

I picked this book to read for a presentation. I am so glad I did. LOVE IT!!! I am a taphophile so it has special appeal for me, but it is a great mystery for Young Readers. The 3 kids are great characters and the mystery they solve is so different from other Young Reader books. It mixes young generations with older generations and I found that very refreshing. I only wish cemetery duty was offered as community service was offered in more schools and it is a great learning tool of history. This book is perfect for fans of mystery novels as well as young readers interested in quirky, different books. The characters are sixth graders but this book would also appeal to fourth and fifth graders. Kudos to Jessica Scott Kerrin for her unique mystery book. ( )

This book has a really cool premise in the way that the clues are delivered to our main character through mystery novels! This book is an excellent book for mystery lovers and even has a main character who has suffered through a painful loss. A great book for a child who recently lost someone to look to for comfort. Very funny and original.
