A short, helpful guide on how to be green. A decent primer for people just beginning to think about reducing their impact. ( )

I found "It's Easy Being Green" to be horribly slapped together, with nothing new to offer anyone who's been around since "green" became popular. At least they recycled ideas? I don't know, maybe a total noob to the green scene would find something to learn in here, which I guess would redeem it a little bit.

There are typos throughout this book, never a good sign; they make me cranky even when I'm reading a GOOD book. In this book, they reinforced the feeling that someone threw together a bunch of obvious "hints" in order to make a quick buck.

I couldn't bring myself to do anything but page through this one a couple of times. ( )

I'm glad my wife won this book from a company function. Had she spent money on it, I would have been upset.

The author is yet another well intentioned, uppity eco-warrior, more than willing to rehash the same, decades-old material that everyone has already heard. Try to buy organic. Reuse your paper and bring a washable mug to work. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

The most hilarious tip in the entire book is one to backup important documents on discs, rather than printing them out. This quaint little reminder is powerful evidence that the author is completely out of touch-- floppy discs are pretty much useless, now. Both professionals and home-users utilize online backup plans and flash drives.

In the end, It's Easy Being Green doesn't fulfill the promise that the title makes. Nowhere in the book are there any tips to making conservative life easier. Organic goods are still prohibitively expensive, as are hybrid vehicles and many recycled products. Her advice that workers ask about compressed work-weeks and telecommuting options are just that-- questions that typically end once they are asked.

If you're looking for useful tips on living green, search the web and save the paper wasted on this piece of trash. ( )
