Great science projects and project based learning opportunities for elementary students. This site provides teachers a safe site to conduct research and get students to practice research skills. World Book also has apps that are sure to enhance learning. Each entry is logically displayed and text is kid friendly ( ) Subscription includes school and home access. http://www.worldbookonline.com/training/kids/index.htm This database makes it easy to search and its simple articles include engaging colour illustrations and videos. Kids will love the compare animals and countries tools. The site also has an atlas, interactive maps, science projects, games, activities, teacher resources and thousands of biographies. Recommended for ages 6-10. The World Book Kids database offers several user-friendly features for children grades K-3. The interface allows for easy searching because it displays different categories including science projects, important people, art, games, and pictures. If the user prefers, he or she may use the simple search box. When searching the user may limit the results to articles, videos, or pictures. Additionally, it also provides atlases, interactive maps, citation help and dictionary. If a child is unfamiliar with how to use any of these tools, the database offers straightforward and helpful instructions. It also provides much accessibility. For those with disabilities it allows the user to change the display, but does not possess any features for those who have a hearing impediment. It has a separate site for Spanish speaking individuals, which seems helpful for ELL students. The database is also kept updated and supports multiple mobile devices. The main drawbacks include the limited tools offered to those with disabilities and the information may only be translated into English or Spanish. A vibrant, rainbow colored schema fuels interest and creates an approachable learning environment. Highly recommend. Worldbook Kids is an online encyclopedia which provides a searchable set of articles, maps, videos and pictures for Div. 1 students. The articles generally include relevant images and are kept to an appropriate length for younger children. All of the material is also sorted into a directory, allowing children to browse categories such as People, Sports and Hobbies or Plants and Animals. This is one of the best online resources I've seen for helping younger students do research. The "search it" box is obvious and the search term autocorrection helps younger students with spelling. The article pages contain high interest material but are easy to read and have lots of colourful photos and illustrations to complement the text. I particularly like that each page has a citation to help students learn to cite their sources. Some of the "extras" like the maps and dictionary also support early learners. The four categories of activities "Think it" , "Be it", "Make it" and "Play it" also have curriculum links and appeal to different learning styles. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
