This book is written in rhythmic verse as it tells the story of the beginning of the mail system. From men traveling on horse and carriage to the short lived period of the Pony Express. The expressive text and vivid illustrations make this an exciting book to teach children about the beginning of mail communication. ( ) This book took place in the late 1700's and up to the mid 1800's, and is about how mailed changed throughout those years. There's a brother and sister writing letters to each other across country. You learn that mail was delivered by stagecoach and horses, then mail started being delivered by ships. They even tried using camels before they thought of using ponies. After the pony express came about the telegraph was invented. Not long after the telegraph was invented mail started being delivered by train. The story has a lot of historical information but it's still entertaining to kids because it tells a story of a brother and sister who write to each other about their kids. The brother wanted a boy but he got seven girls instead, at the end his nephew goes to stay with him so he finally gets the boy he always wanted. This book is about the evolution of mail in early America. As you read, you experience this evolution through a brother and sister writing back and forth. It detailed the everything from the pony express up to the telegraph, which eventually ended the Pony Express.
