This book is made up of several poems telling what it is like to be a volcano and the earth around a volcano. I think the voice in this poem is Dramatic Mask. The parts of the earth and the volcano are having conversations amongst each other through poems. I like how all the poems made up a conversation between things. ( )

Having been to the real-life volcano which the author uses for inspiration in her book instantly created some positive bias towards this book. Serving as a fun trip through the lush and vibrant landscape of Mt. Kilauea through poetry, "Volcano Wakes Up!" is a joint geography and ELA lesson waiting to happen. With catchy poems and bright artwork that reflects the eruption of the volcano throuout the day from the perspectives of vegetation and insects, this book is another read aloud session necessity. ( )

summary: A book full of poems about volcanoes and what they are, what they do, etc. It also shoes different things and animals that can be found around volcanoes and why they are there and what they do.

classroom connection: I like how this book uses "text talk" as part of the writing, I think kids will really enjoy that! This book would be a great resource when learning about volcanoes. It's a fun way to rhyme and learn about the process of a volcano.

A day in the life of a Hawaiian volcano is captured in poetry. The poems are from the perspectives of the volcano, party-animal ferns, crickets that speak in "text," the road, the sun and the moon. The book is uniques and entertaining. It would appeal to all ages. ( )

This book on Volcano’s uses an interesting point of view, allowing objects, such as the sun, moon, and volcano to be actual speaking characters. It makes for interesting perspectives that are not typically seen in. The book is geared towards a younger audience, maybe k-2. The atypical format of this book allows the reader to use their imagination and think outside the box. One could easily extend a lesson from this book having the children pretend to be other objects and express their points of view in art or script. ( )
