Shattering, incredibly well-written and violent story of a bad man and how his interaction with an 18-year old girl he rescues changes both their lives and the life of a little girl. That's pretty inadequate and doesn't really do the book justice, but there should be no spoilers here. There are a number of shocking scenes that may take you by surprise. As I say with all the best books I review: just read it. ( ) The rare read that got better at the very end of the book. Full of descriptive terse writing NP tells the story of Roy and Raquel, on the run on the Gulf coast of Texas and LA. A hard edged, tense and violent world with people living on the edge in the sub-tropics. Not the smoothest read but great sympathy for Roy Cady was read into the story. The fore shadowing and the jump to current time was confusing at first but it worked in the end. I look forward to NP'a Yellow Seas. Really good, I think. I don't read many of "your average crime novels", but I nonetheless feel it is safe to say this ain't your average crime novel. Great stuff. Very atmospheric without trying too hard. I definitely want to pick up his short story collection, maybe see if he's written any more books since this one. The past isn't real. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
