This is not the same as the fragments I remember of the rhyme from my childhood (which ran, in part, "As I ran out / They ran in / I hit them on the head with a rolling pin") but a rare sighting of this rhyme in any form whatsoever and I was delighted to find it at a library book sale. I decided not to keep it because not only is the rhyme different (I suspect the author made up new words), the illustrations are not very well done, and if my grandchildren were to find it and like it, I don't think I could bear to read it over and over and over. The illustrations in this book are a little messy, but they're bright and colorful, and the pattern of the story is not to be missed. So, of course, if you're a teacher you can move on from this book by teaching the jump rope rhyme to the kids. Always good to get them moving, makes things stick in the mind, doesn't it?
