"Is it the REAL thing, or is it Gag Juice?"
The new Coca-Cola arrived Wednesday night in a large, insulated bag. The newspaper staff, as is their wont with anything free, went into the bag with the fury of swarming piranha.
Boy, were they sorry.
And boy, am I sorry.
After 38 years of faithful and loving attachment to the soft drink we know and savor as Coca-Cola, I must do my painful duty and tell you:
The new Coke is awful.
It tastes like a lousy imitation of Pepsi.
The staff members who drank it hated it.
When I finally got my can of it, I hated it.
It is sweet, and yes, it is Sugar Plum Fairy Gag Juice.
"Coke fans win: The real thing returns"
We did it. We won.
On Wednesday, the Coca-Cola Co. announced that, yes, the revolution had touched 'em.
Coke is bringing back the 7x formula, the original Coke, the real thing.
It will be called Coca-Cola Classic.
I don't care if they call it Gasoline Cola, if it's the real thing, I'm going to buy it.
Coit was with the Rocky Mountain News for a short two and a half years; Denver took him in, loving his talent and his big heart. Coit was 38 when he died of a heart attack, 11 days after marrying Susan O'Malley in a New Year's Eve ceremony in the lobby of the Rocky. RIP John Coit. ( )
