Det Mørke Tårn kalder stadig på Roland, og sammen med sine ledsagere fortsætter han gennem ødemarken, hvor farer og en ukendt fjende lurer, og hvor en kærlighedshistorie fra Rolands fortid bliver meget nærværende.

This might have been my favourite of the Dark Tower series thus far. I loved getting some of Roland's backstory, especially! ( )

Listening to Audiobook on my commutes to work.

Really enjoying the book so far, the flashbacks are super interesting and captivating - I almost forgot that its actually Roland telling a story to Eddie and that company.

The standoff between Bert, Alain, Roland and the coffin hunters is great - this is by far my favorite book in the dark tower expanded universe thus far. King continues to captivate and amaze me with his storytelling. I hope it doesn't end too quickly!

Susan is a great mysterious character, Kings description of her is almost life like. You know something is going to happen to her the way that Roland speaks of her in the present.

Oh and you know that witch is going to play a large part in this. Will Flagg show up?

Flagg shows up.

Book is great, certainly on my all time top list. Excited to read this again when the time comes, on to the next book! ( )

I have a lot of feelings about this one, and in a lot of ways I've read three and half books to finally get to the story the middle of this book is about. I'm pleased to have finally gotten to Susan's Story, and gotten to see it told the right way and not the way that it is written for the comics that once graced the counter of a store I was working at/getting books from.

I am growing a gruff and rough, but subtle love for the cowboy epic that is this tale as I plod my way through it this year, even though I have been warned about a good number of things. I love watching the descent of The Old World and The Old Ways, before 'the world moved on,' just as much I'm loving watching the main character draw closer and closer and closer together through their journey.

I may have wrinkled my nose at the sudden and magically appearance of the pink ball after in the current storyline conveniently after it being a big plot point in the flashback, and I'm still head-tippy uncertain how I feel about the Wizard of Oz mingle. Oy continues to be my most likely favorite character, but -- in true Amanda fashion -- I'm much more falling in love with this group of people as a unit than specifically one person among them. ( )

(review written after third reading on July 23, 2021)

I've gained a new appreciation for this one on my third reading.

Previous readings, I was upset that the main quest was so sidetracked by the bulk of Roland's story here. Now I get what King was doing. I mean, I had been waiting to find out what happened next, but King had been waiting even longer, and visiting Roland's past was an important point in figuring out Roland's future. I get that now.

Plus, the story of Roland's original ka-tet, of Susan Delgado, of the happenings in Mejis, is a great story. It gets a little graphic for my liking, the way certain acts with Rhea are described is a bit much for me, but still.

Also, as I intend to read all the tie-in novels as well as the main Dark Tower books as I finally finish the series, I also have a better grasp of why King led us down this road to the past at this point, especially when you consider he also went back and added another book of Roland's tales of the past that is set after this one, but before Wolves of the Calla. Of course, we also need Roland's tale to understand exactly why their path has led them into the world of The Stand and exactly what connection that world and its characters have to Roland and the Dark Tower itself.

ROMEO

Lady, by yonder blessed moon I vow,

That tips with silver all these fruit-tree tops --

JULIET

O, swear not by the moon, th' inconstant moon,

That monthly changes in her circled orb,

Lest that thy love prove likewise variable

ROMEO

What shall I swear by?

JULIET

Do not swear at all.

Or, if thou wilt, swear by thy gracious self,

Which is the god of my idolatry,

And I'll believe thee.

William Shakespeare
On the fourth day, to [Dorothy's] great joy, Oz sent for her, and when she entered the Throne Room, he greeted her pleasantly. "Sit down, my dear. I think I found a way to get you out of this country."

"And back to Kansas?" she asked, eagerly.

"Well, i'm not sure about Kansas," said Oz, "for I haven't the faintest notion which way it lies..."

This book is dedicated to Julie Eugley and Marsha DeFilippo. They answer the mail, and most of the mail for the last couple of years has been about Roland of Gilead -- the gunslinger. Basically, Julie and Marsha nagged me back to the word processor. Julie, you nagged the most effectively, so your name comes first.
