Many of you would be familiar with him because he wrote "Little Big Man" and "Neighbors" which became movies. He was famous for his black humor and he was among my favorites. His name popped into my head recently so I checked him out and found out he passed away in 2014. I did see that he had done quite a few books that I had not read so I thought I would check out "Suspects" and see if it still had the Berger magic. The story surrounds a murder in a quiet neighborhood. It contains Berger's attention to detail that can border on too much until you really look at it. Although this is a murder mystery, it really deals with all of the characters and especially with the police that work on the case. Although Suspects is not on a level with his earlier work, it was a good read. For those who have not read Berger, check him out. He was one of the great underrated novelists of the 20th century. He was quite prolific but for a first book, I would read "Little Big Man" because it is his most famous. ( ) ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
In "Suspects," Thomas Berger invites us into the most American of towns: a manicured hamlet that's not quite as safe as it once was but that is still inhabited by good, hard workers, friendly neighbors, and, of course, dysfunctional families. No library descriptions found. |
