1. Summary - This book is about Jesus, what kind of world he was born into, what his childhood and youth looked like, some of his encounters with men, women, and children and how he used these encounters to teach. This book also tells of the temptation Jesus went through and didn't fail his father, how h as baptized, what baptism means, and also about the apostles and how he chose them, knew all about them, and who they really were. It goes on to talk about his miracles being a double edged sword. ( To many people find out right now who he is, he can't do his work and share the gospel, if no one finds out then he can not complete his mission on earth). It then talks about the 10 commandments, what they mean, how they are nonnegotionable and why we have them. Finally the book talks about Jesus' crusifixtuon and resurrection and the "birth of Christianity".

2. Personal Reaction - I thought this book was great! I loved how the author used history, facts and his personal relationship with the Lord to compose such an intelligent and easy to read book on Christianity and where it comes from and why (I) believe the way we do.

3. Extension Ideas -
1. I would use this book in a Christian based school setting such as Lawton Christian School, to promote a brief but accurate view point of how Jesus is such a good and faithful Creator.
2. I could use this book to give background to what the area around Jesus was like while he walked the earth.

A simple introduction, taking each gospel at face value and trying to present an all round picture of Jesus. Strong on the idea that he showed us how to live and we should and can obey. Uses the notion of sacrifice for his death but avoids theology.
One distinct emphasis is on the poetic nature of Jesus teachings, they were expressed vividly with lots of similes and metaphors. He had a gift fro memorable words that still resonates today after translation into our very different culture. ( )

I expected alot more from this book. You take the four gospels and add some historical context and that is it. There are no prying questions, no real digging, needless to say somewhat disappointed. ( )
