Have to return to the library. Paused at the beginning of Part II. Read chapter 7.

Easy to read book on the relationship between the mind and the body, how good brain health means good health in general. Dr. Amen contends that a face lift can be avoided with the proper attention to health issues. That part I do not completely agree with:) As has been done in the past, he recognizes the importance of the mind body connection.

He does identify the purpose of each part of the brain and then proceeds to tell how certain traits and characteristics can show strength or deficit in that section. He also tells how to correct any deficit if needs be.

I found this factual, to the best of my nurse practitioner knowledge, and entertaining. There were a few short quizzes and also listings of websites for further information. I definitely would read other books by this author. ( )

Change Your Brain CHange Your Body is a great book. The wisdom of this book is that the brain controls any changes we want to make to our bodies. The author Daniel G. Amen lays out a very complex and clinical evidence to prove his points. However, he does this in a way for the layman to understand. Amen himself is a very strong advocate for his message. The great thing about this book is that it has a broad scope of topics. Including: maintain weight, reduce stress, sharpen your memory, increase willpower, enhance sexual functions, lower blood pressure, avoid depression. The book gives clear consise instructions for attacking these problems. There is also quite a bit of info on vitamins and supplements. I would highly recommend this book. ( )

We do a study called brain SPECT imaging that looks at blood flow and activity patterns. SPECT stands for single photon emission computed tomography. Unlike MRI and CAT scans, which show the anatomy of the brain, SPECT scans look at how the brain functions.
Willpower is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.
Considering that your body consists of 70 percent water, and your brain is 80 percent water, proper hydration is the first rule of good nutrition.
Physical activity is the single most important thing you can do to enhance brain function and keep your body looking young. Whether you are six years old or ninety-six years old, exercise acts like a fountain of youth. If you can only follow one of the solutions in this book, make it this one.
Stress causes the adrenal glands to produce excessive amounts of the hormone cortisol, which has been found to kill cells in the hippocampus and impair memory. In fact, people with Alzheimer's disease have higher cortisol levels than do normal aging people.
