Riveting account about Booth's manhunt. Narrative is great and Booth and his coconspirators really come to life. You're taken back to the time and the limitations of conducting a manhunt and all the blunders along the way. ( )

Engaging narrative, and covers a topic that a lot of people only know a bit about. Reading an ARC might've been detrimental, here — there were a good number of details Swanson left out, and lots of typos. Some thoughts got lost in the shuffle. ( )

I learned through history classes that John Wilkes Booth was Abraham Lincoln's assassin. What I didn't know is all of the details of the planning of the killing and what took place in the hunt for Booth after the assassination. The details of the killing and the manhunt that followed were written to keep the reader interested to the end. ( )

I read this a long while ago so I can't remember details to review, but I do remember that I loved reading it and was completely fascinated by the story of John Wilkes Booth and his crazy runaway after assassinating Lincoln. ( )

But for the most part the narrative - which relies on numerous first-hand and contemporary accounts, as well as Swanson's own retracing of Booth's steps - has a convincing feel, full of detail and dialogue. Manhunt is an enjoyable, and often exciting, portrayal of what must have been twelve of the most turbulent days in American history
