An adaptation of A Christmas Story, grumpy badger learns the meaning of Christmas and importance of helping others.

All the creatures of the forest are busy preparing for Christmas - making treats, putting up the communal tree, wrapping and distributing presents - in this cute holiday story, save for Grumpy Badger, who only wants to begin his winter's hibernation in peace. "Piffle!," he declares, when wished a Merry Christmas, when asked for his ladder (for tree decorating purposes), and when offered a gift. He even refuses to help, when Mole get stuck at the top of the tree, and can't get down. Then he has a terrible nightmare about Mole falling, and, realizing his error, sets out to correct it...

Although I agree with the friend who recommended this one to me, in finding the story somewhat predictable, Grumpy Badger's Christmas was still quite a heartwarming read, particularly when taken together with Jane Chapman's adorable artwork! I love a snowy scene, and there are plenty here, as well as many cozy interior ones as well. Recommended to young readers who are feeling a little grumpy, amidst all the holiday bustle, and to fans of Jane Chapman's cute-as-a-button illustrations. ( )

"Christmas is for sleeping..." declares the Grumpy Badger. There's excitement all around as the Grumpy Badger checks his pantry for supplies and settles in for a long winter's nap. However, the forest animals keep bothering him with their plans and preparations for a Christmas party.

All the Grumpy Badger really wants is some peace and quiet so he can get some sleep. But when the mole gets stuck at the top of a Christmas tree, will the Grumpy Badger sleep through the crisis? It seems that the Grumpy Badger knows just what to do. But can he make up for his grumpiness? Read this charming Christmas tale and find out.

The Bottom Line: Both the young and the young at heart will love "Grumpy Badger's Christmas", a charming picture book that highlights the gifts of friendship and sharing. Children will love the adorable animals beautifully illustrated in acrylics by Jane Chapman. Highly recommended for all.
