When Mo eats food that he does not like he transforms into a large creature that eats all around the world. He keeps going in a circle eating everything in he path until he finally gets home, back to his normal self. This story is all about circles and would be good to show to younger students learning about them. The illustrations have circle hidden in them and even the sentences curve into half circles. ( )

With this book I intended on it to be about math. However, I discovered how this book could pair good with a social studies lesson.

The book is about a boy who are everything except for string beans and cheese soufflé. The boy ate the different states, the president, and even his parents. This book is also great for children’s imagination. In a social studies lesson you can use this book to describe the different states and why each state he ate had a different flavor or why the pictures in the book for the different states were shaped like different foods. You can also use this book to pair the states with what they are famous for. In the book it says, “first he gulped down China, wall and all.” As a teacher you can explain the wall he gulped down was the Great Wall of China. This book in a way can expose children to the different states in the U.S. ( )

This book was very interesting and not what I expected. From the beginning I did not see much math, but I definitely found it! This book is about a boy who is very picky with his food. As this story progresses he turns into different monsters and ate the entire world. This book addressed things like lines, circles, and waves. I think the words "eat around it", scream math as I automatically think of math operations. This book is creative, humorous, and encourages a sense of wonder from readers. ( )

The Boy Who Ate Around is a cute story about a picky little eater. The little boy does not like what his parents cooked for dinner. Instead, he decides to eat whatever is around his plate. Throughout the story, he turns into many different monsters and ends up eating the whole world. I really enjoyed the creativity in this book and how it allows the reader to have a great imagination. The text is written in waves, circles, lines etc. throughout the story. This made it enjoyable and funny to read. Overall, I think this is a really cute book to share with children simply for entertainment. ( )

This is a fun story that has awesome pictures and teaches the students about a variety of places. It also encourages them to use their imagination and gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "eat around it!"
