If you are looking for a quick read with an exciting story, this is it. I read it between acts at a folk festival. While I don't usually read novels that are part of a series, I did enjoy this one. Skye Fargo agrees to help his friend, mountain man Jim McLeod, shepherd gold shipments from the mine into the frontier town of Las Vegas. Jim has a daughter who is being pursued by a Mexican suitor who has sworn to kill Jim. The daughter is kidnapped by the suitor and his father & Jim is killed protecting a gold shipment giving Skye plenty to do - recover the girl and find Jim's killers.
In this novel, Sharpe has written the most explicit lovemaking scenes I have ever read in a western. I suspect Skye performs this way in every novel in the series.
My one criticism would be it appeared that Sharpe had more plot then he could jam in 156 pages thus forcing him to end the story with a very abrupt rap up that I did not find very satisfying. Still a an enjoyable read. ( )
