This review is also featured on Behind the Pages: Forever

Tom Culpeper will not rest until the wolves in Boundary Wood are dead. And this time he may get his wish. He’s petitioning to lift the protection off the wolves and wipe them out with an aerial hunt. With Grace in the woods, Sam and Cole must come up with a way to save the wolves on their own, but time is running out.

Even though as a whole I love this series, there were some moments in Forever that made me take away a star. Sam was less endearing in the third book. He was still fiercely dedicated to Grace, but his hesitation to help and make decisions without her made the story slow down. Beck raised him to be the new leader of the wolves, but I found Sam falling short of that title. Cole took up the mantle more often than Sam, even if Cole acknowledged Sam was higher in the pack.

Cole became the highlight of Forever. His character arc had an explosion of development as he struggled to become comfortable in his human skin. His life took on a new purpose and with it, Cole became someone that was damaged but fought to be a better person. A well-written redemption story will catch me every time, and Cole certainly redeemed himself in Forever.

There was also a tendency throughout the series to push aside secondary characters. While they at first seemed important to the plot, they were used and cast aside never to be seen again. But despite having characterization flaws, Forever is still an emotionally gripping addition to The Wolves of Mercy Falls. The danger to the pack has increased and lives hang in the balance as their time slowly begins to wind down. Revisiting this series was a walk down memory lane with characters that will forever be close to me. ( )

Possible spoilers for previous books... Maggie is now a wolf; everyone thinks she is missing, but Sam knows otherwise as she is staying with him. Famous musician Cole (who has also been missing, I think) and friend(?) Isabelle also know that Maggie is still alive.. Isabelle’s father(?) is insisting on a wolf hunt to get rid of the wolves once and for all.

I missed a bit too much in the first half to give it a higher rating. As usual, a better recap would have been appreciated... but then, maybe there was one and I missed it? It did pick up for me in the second half, and I paid more attention (I was listening to the audio, so that’s always easier for me to lose focus). It’s unfortunate I never did really figure out where Cole or Isabelle fit in, nor did I like either character very much. ( )

I thought that with this being the last book in the series, there would be something more to it... Like more action, or better love scenes or something.... Something was just missing. it was basically a snooze fest through most of it. Very dissapointing. ( )

I thought I would never finish this book. Even though maggie has some of the most descriptive and beautiful writing I have ever encountered, the first 150 pages were the slowest I can imagine. We are teased with Cole maybe figuring out a cure and the werewolf virus itself, and then we drown in teenage angst and russian poetry. Sad part is, we kind of knew how the book would end from the beginning because we are given the main problem straight off, and it peeks at us from time to time, only to make a big splash at the end. Also, I don't really feel the love between Grace and Sam. I know, i know their supposed to be soulmates, and I really could see it in the first book, maybe alittle in the second. Now, through this one, I feel like its just understood "Hey, we love each other." I don't think its ever said, at all. For example, when she shifts back and shes in the bathroom at Beck's house, and she goes out, she doesn't immediately seek him out. She goes down to hang out with Cole, and then he comes and finds her. If I've been in a wolf body, you best believe I'm going to find my man, and give him the kisses and hugs I haven't had in awhile. Also, when they go out to check the aurora borealis, not once does she say "I love you" even though she mentions thinking about it, but decides not to. Why? He already knows. Then when their laying in his bed after they find out Olivia's dead, all he can think about is having sex with her, but keeps telling himself no because shes grieving. Sam was never like that. I just don't feel the love between them anymore. I am disappointed with this ending to the story. I wanted closure. I wanted to know that all the loose ends were tied, that everyone who wanted to be was human, and that they could all go on with their lives and sam would have a family again. The ending I got felt like they cut some of it off. All in all, not the ending i wanted, and not the ending those of us who are true to the series deserved. ( )

I am trying my hardest to get through this book quickly but it's practically killing me. I fell in love with the story line and the characters in book 1, but it's all gone down hill for me. I can't even make it through a paragraph without wanting to throw it across the room. Not only am I finding the characters harder to deal with, I can't even follow this story line any more. Either I'm disenchanted or the two years that it's taken me to get through this book, due to anxiety and anger, have killed it for me. Unfortunately, I won't be able to finish it... ( )
