The pristine woods of Pennsylvania beckon, and adventurous souls make a perilous journey to the New World. Ann McKay, a young orphan, and Caleb Craighead, a newly ordained minister, take Love's Gentle Journey on the same ship. Will their hard-won prize be a new love and a new home? When Native American warriors separate Sarah Craighead from her parents, which of her two suitors, struggling to reunite the settler family, will win her love under the Sign of the Bow? Adam Craighead, seeking his Sign of the Eagle, leaves the wilderness for colonial Philadelphia - filled with eligible women. But political tensions are turning friends into enemies. With the War for Independence over, Hannah Stone finds herself courted by two worthy men - who ignite a new conflict in her heart. Can the Sign of the Dove bring her peace? Follow two pioneer families as they tame the American wilderness and pursue the desires of their hearts. What godly legacy will each person leave?… (mere)

I picked this up because it looked like fairly innocuous historical fiction. Wrong! Each of the four stories has essentially the same plot: Young people fall in love, circumstances intervene, and then God's plan for everyone is revealed, and we all live happily ever after. The stories are predictable and the characters are pretty one-sided, so it's obvious from the first few pages of each story what's "in God's plan" for the characters. Although it's a moderately long book, I feel it would be better for Christian young adults - anyone looking for a more complicated view of life or relationships would be better served elsewhere. It may be some people's cup of tea, but it's not mine, and I feel like this book suffered from a severe case of false advertising. ( )
