"Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. He's been brought on by the Special Crimes Division of the FDA, the most powerful law enforcement agency on the planet, to investigate their strangest, sickest, and most bizarre cases"--P. Protagonist Tony Chu is cibopathic, which means he can get very detailed impressions and clues from things he eats. This reminded me very much of the iZombie series; however, Tony goes from being a regular cop to being recruited by the FDA, which has now become the most powerful law-enforcement branch of the United States government, due to a bird flu pandemic that has rendered poultry illegal. Lots of sarcasm, a supervisor who likes to harangue Tony, and some weird story lines. Quality art by illustrator Rob Guillory, whose panels project a great deal of energy. ( )

graphic novel (PG-13/R, with adult content, violence/cannibalism and some swearing). Really quick read, very pulpy, and I can see why the series is doing so well. ( )

Whacked out, gross and brilliant, Chew takes a bizarre idea (what if you could read the mind of your food?) and spins it into an over the top procedural. Like nothing else I've read recently, and I look forward to more. ( )

"Chew" is warped, offbeat, crazy, hilarious, and above all.. brilliant. It's character-driven with a perfect balance of action, suspense, and laugh-out-loud humor. I could barely stomach my enjoyment of this series; it's just that damn good! It's probably NOT a good idea to eat food while reading because it holds back nothing when it comes to describing its contents--literally. You can expect a considerable amount of violence, action, mystery, with a splash of horror decorating each page with graphic imagery of all of the above. Cleverly concise dialogue and truly out their characters lend itself to a ridiculously intriguing, strangely addicting story not to be missed. ( )

this series has given me nightmares about cannibals, but don't let that dissuade you from reading it! it's really good, and the art is AWESOME. ( )

John: To Kim, who surely expected my weird cannibals and bird flu idea to flop, and supported my mad folly nontheless.

Rob: To April, who makes me think I can lift mountains. And to Mom and Dad, who sheltered my dreams, while not completely understanding them.
