A nicely mythic Watership Down with swords 8) ( )

I'm not sure how to rate/review this one. I love the artwork, that's for sure. And I really enjoyed the story that was unfolding; however it somehow felt like it was a bit slow. A lot did happen, and there were several parts with a fair bit of action, and a decent bit of suspense... but somehow it just felt really slow.

So, I give 4 stars rather than 5. Artwork = good, story = good, just something not quite there.

I'm anxious to read the next volume, and see how it progresses and if I feel better about the pacing there, since the underlying story has now already been laid out. ( )

The artwork style is a little rough for me, but the story is engaging and interesting. I'll definitely be back to read more. ( )

Merideth says: For what this, it is very well done. However, I knew going in that I was not going to like this book. I have a very low tolerance for animal fantasy, and epic animal fantasy tries my patience even more. That being said, I can appreciate Oeming's art, here, which is more angular than some of his other work, but which gives this story an interesting edge. The convoluted mythology at play here works against the immediacy of the story, and the "twist" at the end is not really that surprising. However, fans of Redwall and Mouse Guard will enjoy this story. ( )
