Melanie Middleton is continuing to work on renovations to the historic home on Tradd Street that she inherited and her complicated relationship with Jack Trenholm. Melanie is no longer haunted by spirits who once inhabited her new home, she is about to be haunted by a ghost from her past: her mother. After being removed from her life for 30 years, Ginette Prioleu Middleton has returned to Charleston and wants to begin renewing a relationship with her daughter...if Melanie will even let her in the door! Ginette desires to purchase her family home on Legare Street and asks Melanie to help her buy it. While hesitant, Melanie agrees to help her mother purchase the house so that she can then be out of her life. If only life were that simple. While mother and daughter work our their estranged relationship, another haunting visitor from the past comes calling and puts them both in danger. Ginette and Melanie must put aside their differences and use their psychic similarities to help solve this mystery and prevent another tragedy.

This book picks right up where The House on Tradd Street left off. It was just as fast paced and had all the great twists and turns. Onwards to the next book in the series! The Strangers on Montagu Street. ( )

This is the second in a series. I read the first one years ago and then added this one to my TBR list but just never got around to reading it until now. I liked the first one and I have a hard time resisting books set in Charleston, South Carolina. It's one of my favorite cities.

As with the first one, this is a bit of a mix of genres. It's part historical fiction, part almost romance, part mystery, and a touch of paranormal with a main character who can see ghosts. I enjoyed the parts about Charleston's history and the mystery was interesting even though most readers will figure things out before the characters in the book do.

The main character, Melanie, is one of those characters that I occasionally want to slap for being stupid or stubborn, or unnecessarily rude. Granted, she's got a lot going on in her life with the mother she hasn't seen in 33 years back in town, but nevertheless she kind of bugged me more than she didn't in this book.

All in all there was more that I liked in this book than what I didn't like but I'm still not sure I'll continue with the series. ( )

I know I should say tell you all that this book is weird because it's about houses inhabited by dead souls/spirits/ghosts and it's Melanie who has the "gift" of being able to see them, whereas your average Joe can't. The funny thing is, I still like the book!

This book is more about Melanie and her strained relationship with her long-absent mother who just returned to Charleston. We still see her dad, Sophie, Chad, Nancy, and the housekeeper/cook. Jack is still a good part of the story, although you never seem to know if that "relationship" is coming or going. But that adds to the intrigue of the storyline. Rebecca is the new character introduced into this book. It's hard to decide if you like her or hate her!

Anyway, I was pleased with the book and I think I will continue the series. ( )

In the second book of the Tradd Street series Melanie Middleton is helping her mother renovate the house on Legare Street which was in the family and then was sold to someone from Texas. The Texas owners refurbished the house with very modern decor after they purchased it. But, at the time of the story they have decided to sell the house and return to Texas. Melanie's mother purchases the family home and asks Melanie and her friends to help her with the restoration. They soon realize that ghosts are lurking in the house, one of which may be very harmful to them. So Melanie and her mother set out to solve the mystery surrounding the haunting and to set the ghosts free.

Information about the local culture and home renovation is interspersed in the plot. I find this to be an interesting addition to the storyline. ( )

I was miserable, wanting him to talk to me but dreading what he might say. I was afraid of him not being in my life anymore, but terrifed of what he'd need me to do to keep him there.
But I held back, focusing instead on the millions of reasons why kissing Jack Trenholm was a bad idea, the least of which being his ability to make me lose control. And being in control was the only thing I'd learned that I could truly count on.
