I observed two students reading this story in a classroom, and they really enjoyed the story. I think it was a little hard at times to read the text as the words were scattered on the page, but they loved the story. It is engaging to young readers. When I observed, one girl was reading the words and the other was making connections to what her partner was reading to the illustrations on the page. I think Lauren Child does a great job with the illustrations in that way too. ( )

Trixie Twinkle Toes Trot-a-Lot Delight, is sick of being a pampered pup. Trixie wants to howl like the other dogs and jump in the puddles. She does not like wearing scarves or being poofed. Although Trixie tries to rebel against her owner Verity Brulee she can not seem to get away from her sheltered life. ( )

In this book, Trixie Twinkle Toes Trot-a-lot delight is a pampered poodle living the good life. Even though Trixie Twinkle toes has everything a dog could ask for, she wasn't happy with being the pretty little pampered poodle she was. She didn't get to play with other dogs o step in puddles and she always had people fussing over her. She especially didn't like her name. Because of this, Trixie had begun to act differently and sigh and howl. After a little bout of sadness and a trip to the dog psychiatrist, no one could figure out what was wrong with her. Usually, they didn't go out in the rain because of the fear of getting wet and dirty. After leaving an emergency trip to the dog psychiatrist, it was raining and they had no choice but to walk in the rain. Trixie saw a dog drowning in a puddle and jumped in to save it. At that point, her owner realized that Trixie wasn't the little pretty dog that she wanted her to be. Tribe then never had to be fussed over or pampered again. Unfortunate for Trixie Twinkle toes Trots-a-lot Delight, the name was stuck. This particular book didn't have much of an obvious lesson at the end as Lauren Child's other books. One could compare themselves to Trixie and say they don't really like the life their living, but I feel like a child doesn't have that much of a say at the age the book is targeted to. ( )

There was once a beautiful poodle named Trixie Twinkle Toes Trot-a-lot- Delight. She lived a pampered life and was adored by her owner. At first look, it seemed Trixie Twinkle Toes lived the perfect life. Her pillows were fluffed, her nails were painted and her mane was always perfect. After all of this Trixie Twinkle Toes was still miserable. For starters, she did not even like her name. Trixie wants to be real dog. She wants to play in puddles and mud, chew bones and play with other dogs. It was evident something was wrong with Trixie. She was summoned to the vet for test and treatments but Trixie was still acting strange. Her owner tried everything but no one was listening to Trixie. Trixie was a dazzling dangerous dog, not a fluff ball poodle. She proved this to her owner and her life changed for ever. From there on they went outside while it was raining, she played with other dogs and she never had to play dress up again! At the end of the day, dogs just want to be dogs. After reading this book, I think I better cut back on the way I pamper my dogs, maybe they too just want to play in puddles? Not going to happen, but I still love this book! ( )
