Chloroanilines have 3 isomers: chlorinated at the 2, 3 and 4 (ortho, meta, and para) positions. Their use patterns are the same and they all show the same pattern of toxicity in rats and mice (e.g. haematotoxicity). Therefore, this CICAD focuses on the risk assessment of 4-chloroaniline as the most toxic of the chlorinated anilines. 4-chloroaniline is a colorless to slightly amber-colored crystalline solid with a mild aromatic odor. It is used as an intermediate in the production of number of products, including agricultural chemicals, azo dyes and pigments.
