This book is more than an atlas. It is full of maps, charts, lists, and essays. The subjects it covers include Ancient Indians, Ancient Civilizations, Indian Lifeways (culture, art, technology, shelter, clothing, religion, etc.), Indians and Explorers (a chronological list is included), Indian Wars (by far the most extensive section of the book), Indian Land Cessions, and Contemporary Indians.

Back matter is extensive, and includes a general chronology of North American Indian history, an alphabetical list of tribes with their locations, both historical and contemporary, a list of reservations by state in the US, and by province in Canada, an alphabetical list of major Indian place names in the US and Canada, and a list of museums, historical societies, reconstructed villages and archeological sites pertaining to Indians in the US and Canada. Finally there is a bibliography and index.

Evaluation: While much of this information can be gleaned off of the internet, it is very nice to have it all in one place, as this book provides. ( )

An increadibly useful read and reference resource with maps, place names and history. Starting with the advent of humans and continuing through genocide.
