Not the most amazing book I've ever read, but not too bad. Lots of action, nicely paced plot. I like it enough to read the next one and see if it gets better. ( )

I loved this second in the series. Branwen continues her journey in the service of The Shinning Ones, the old gods of her people. She has been chosen to save her country from Saxon invaders and she steps up to the challenge, after misgivings and anger/resentment to the gods for not sparing her brother when they could have. After it seems that she has failed in the challenge to save Iwan's home, as she stands at the end of a Saxon sword...all hope is saved by the arrival of one of The Shining Ones! With his, and his creatures help...all is not lost and Branwen is joined on her quest by women and men alike who have placed their future and that of Brython in Branwen and her destiny. I am reading the third. The books are easy reads, with enough action to make it hard to put them down. ( )

These are soo pull you in and don't let you go... I did not want to stop reading but wanted to get to the next part of the story to find out more. I am so glad I had the next book all ready checked out of the library and ready to start on! Twists I didn't expect but now I am anxious to see where it leads and if it make the connection I am waiting for. ( )

Branwen made me want to slap her silly at first, at the end of the last book she was prepared to get down to the job, at the beginning of this one she turned whiny and annoying. I'm not sure that my initial feelings towards her changed throughout, I stopped rooting for her and just wanted her to get on with it.

Branwen gains allies and finds out who some of her enemies are. It's interesting but nothing stood out for me or made me want to read more. ( )

Branwen ap Griffith pulled back on the reins and her weary horse gradually came to a halt, snorting softly and shaking its mane.
