Her illustrations are beautifully colorful collages found on each page. The ugly duckling does not fit in with the rest of his family so he runs away in search of a place to fit in. He is turned away by many before finding himself and becoming the most beautiful swan of all! This rendition of The Ugly Duckling takes place in Africa where the author spent 10 years and she is inspired to create her fairy tales in the African setting. ( ) The Ugly Duckling tells the story of a duckling that was born different from all of the others. Unlike all of his siblings, he was born with gray feathers and considered ugly because of his differences. Until one day a farmer found the duckling on the ground and took him in to shelter him. Once showered with unconditional love, the duckling grew into a beautiful swan. This is a great story about differences and how we should embrace them. I love all of Rachel Isadora's work. Her story about the Ugly Duckling was extremely cute. Her illustrations are always super creative. I did feel bad for the duckling at first but it worked out for him and the story turned out extremely good. I will definitely keep all of Rachel Isadora's folklore books in mind for my own classroom. The Ugly Duckling retold by Rachel Isadora is a great book to use to teach children about fairy tales. The ugly duckling does not fit in with the other ducklings and does not know where to go. We watch him travel around all alone and no one wants him. Until, one day he is out in the cold and some kind children bring him home and take care of him. Once it is warm outside again, he sees his reflection in the lake and notices that he has grown into a beautiful Swan. Although this is a fairy tale, I love the message that this book can teach children; even though you may be different, it does not mean you are not beautiful in your own way. The Ugly Duckling Retold and Illustrated by Rachel Isadora was amazing. Flipping through the pages waiting to discover what beautiful illustrations were next. I really enjoyed how she had the setting of the story in Africa. So, since it was in Africa the ugly duckling had to go around to geese flying over what looks like a Sahara. The text are pretty similar to the original but, the illustrations are what brings this book on a whole new level. I can re-read this book a bunch of times just because of the setting she choose and the vibrant artwork. The theme of the Ugly Duckling is never judge. All the animals judged the duckling for not fitting in with his brothers and sisters but in the end he turned into a beautiful swan. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
