In a future ruled by superstition and fear, wanting the wrong man can be deadly. A Mother Earth story. The rules governing a Pack-Brother's existence are simple. Love your Brothers. Protect each other and your Tribe with your life. Seek sex only within the bonds of Brotherhood, or your life is forfeit. The laws are harsh, but fair. Or so Bear has always thought. Then he and his Brother Lynx capture a stranger in the Carwin Tribe's outlying lands--Dragon, a Brother from a distant Pack, banished from his Tribe for the crime of challenging things he shouldn't. Dragon intrigues Bear from the start, and not just because of his exotic beauty. Interest in the decadent old world is discouraged in this post-Change society. Dragon is the first person Bear's ever known, other than himself, who's curious about the vanished past. That kinship sparks a forbidden attraction between them. An attraction which is, if they give in to it, punishable by death. In the space of a day, everything Bear was raised to believe is called into question, and he must make a life-changing decision--follow the law, or follow his heart. Book 1 in a Trilogy
In a future ruled by superstition and fear, wanting the wrong man can be deadly.
A MOTHER EARTH STORY:
This is Earth, after the great CHANGE. Mankind has destroyed civilization and Mother Earth has brought forth a NEW WAY OF LIFE.

The rules governing a Pack-Brother’s existence are simple. Love your Brothers. Protect each other and your Tribe with your life. Seek sex only within the bonds of Brotherhood, or your life is forfeit. The laws are harsh, but fair. Or so Bear has always thought. Then he and his Brother Lynx capture a stranger in the Carwin Tribe’s outlying lands—Dragon, a Brother from a distant Pack, banished from his Tribe for the crime of challenging things he shouldn’t.

Dragon intrigues Bear from the start, and not just because of his exotic beauty. Interest in the decadent old world is discouraged in this post-Change society. Dragon is the first person Bear’s ever known, other than himself, who’s curious about the vanished past. That kinship sparks a forbidden attraction between them. An attraction which is, if they give in to it, punishable by death.

In the space of a day, everything Bear was raised to believe is called into question, and he must make a life-changing decision—follow the law, or follow his heart.
This futuristic Novella is a great start to this story, showing why
Ms Blue is one of my favorite gay themed authors. ( )

I spent many hours, when I was younger, ferreting off to read Valley of the Horses and other such gems from Jean M. Auel. All that shagging behind rocks and bushes is apparently firmly entrenched in my psyche, so I do have a penchant for any book where the main characters are in loin cloths and doing the subsistence living thing. Totally floats my boat. The sexual tension and dynamic between Bear and Dragon is a winner. They have lots of furtive and longing looks, along with a bit of voyeurism and the old I’ll wash your back shtick. Which all made for some luscious reading! I also liked the sense of size in Bear and the sinewy strength and litheness of Dragon. merow. The book definitely felt like a start of a series and it was quite short, but I am hoping there will be more Bear and Dragon goodness and smex behind bushes. I have my fingers crossed. heh.http://sharrow.wordpress.com/2009/07/08/dragons-kiss-by-ally-blue/ ( )

Dragon's Kiss was a previously released short story in a Band of Thebes theme anthology. So the main focus of the story is the relationship between fellow soldiers, on manlove relationships bring on more on an almost friendship basis than real love.

In a futuristic world, a mix of Apocalypse Now and Back to the Future, Bear is one of the survivors from a natural disaster that destroyed the Earth as we know her. People now live among the ruin of the past world, but they are back to an almost medieval era. Bear is born generations after the catastrophe, and so he has not knowledge of the world as it was before, and he lives in a closed community, lead by a Council that considers all past things evil. There is acceptance for the homosexual relationships, more, they are encouraged, but only among the members of the pack. The ostracism now is no more for who is 'different', but for who is 'stranger'. People who dare to cross the pack borders are most likely killed and also who wants to go away.

Bear and his fellow soldier Lynx are sent by their Council leader to capture a trespasser; they find the man, Dragon, a member of a near pack who was banished from his people to be an heretic: he doesn't believe that all the past was evil, he wants to know, he wants something forbidden, the knowledge. Bear knows that, if they bring back Dragon to their pack, the man would be probably killed, and Bear fears this event since the same sin Dragon committed, is haunting his mind.

This is only a short story, so apart set the place and give the chance to the characters to meet, there is nothing much more. But the most interesting thing is how the prejudice is still present: it shifted from the people to the society, the ignorant crowd no more fear the single man, the different (race, sexuality, rank...), they know fear an entire society, past or stranger, everything is outside their community is evil. And the leaders know that, to preserve their powers, they have to maintain the crow ignorant.

To my mom, for getting me hooked on reading early on, and my sister for helping me dream up the imaginary worlds
which gave birth to the world Dragon, Bear and Lynx call
home. Between all the books and under-the-fig-tree forts, my
childhood was one filled with adventure, and I'm convinced
that's one reason I write today.
