This book is about a family of bears who go to the farm to get some eggs, but while they are there they spot a new litter of puppies. The baby bears are dying asking their mom to get one, but mama is not too sure about it. This is a great book to read to young children who love dogs. I love that this book teaches responsibility. It teaches them that you can not just get a dog and forget about it. You have to feed it, make sure it has water, bathe it, play with it, and pick up after it. This book has great illustrations that tell the story so well and that should keep the child engaged throughout the whole reading. This book is for younger children, specifically for children between the ages of 4 and 6. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars. ( )

I very much enjoyed all of the books about the Berenstain Bears as a child as well as the show on TV. The books were always fun to read and i really enjoyed the pictures as well. The plot of this particular book teaches young children a good life lesson. Most young children want many things when they are little and don't realize the responsibility of them. However, in this book the author portrays a scenario where the cubs get a puppy and are warned that it is a lot to handle and take care of. The cubs quickly realize this when the puppy has accidents in the house and gets in to everything. This teaches children that although they may want certain things they have to be responsible enough to take care of them. The diction of the book is also simple for young children to read to themselves and is easy to understand. For example, "The pup looked into mama's eyes. The pup licked Mama's nose. The pup wagged her tail." These are examples that are easy for children to understand and read to themselves. ( )
