A great book recounting the life of a great lawyer and jurist

An incredible read. What an amazing man. If the country can repeat history by producing a second Gilded Age, maybe real progressives can make a comeback too. (

4639. Louis D. Brandeis A Life, by Melvin I. Urofsky (read 12 Nov 2009) This is a magisterial work, telling well the life of the great Supreme Court Justice. The chapters on some of Brandies' interests as a lawyer were of little interest--savings banks, utilities and railroad fights--but after the account got to the time (Jan 1916) when he was nominated to the Supreme Court the book was of unfailing interest. I have read two other biographies of Btandeis (Mason's and Paper's) and while they were good this one is certainly more authoritative. His life is inspiring and the country was certainly fortunate to have him on the Court. (
