Friends of Livia rent a cursed house near Vigata: first, cockroaches, then rodents, then spiders, and finally, the son disappears. Inspector Montalbano enlists the family's cat to help find the boy, who is trapped underneath the house, where a dead body has been stashed. Montalbano and his team suffering the heat of summer, identify the killer, but do not think the politics will allow for his conviction. Montalbano, pursued by the dead girl's identical twin, is victimized. ( )

Great plot, wicked good characters. Read during a heat wave, the sweltering weather descriptions of Sicily in August really connected. (Should be reading about Bergen in January.) Camilleri's details of corrupt political situation in Italy still compares too closely to current events in U.S. ( )

This Montalbano series is great fun! We have gotten to know the characters and love them. Light and enjoyable, but with a thread of deeper meaning. We always get some good laughs out of these tales along with a good and satisfying mystery. Grover Gardner is the perfect narrator for these books. Just love him! ( )
