Review: Mutation by Robin Cook.

I always enjoyed Robin Cook’s writing and his subject matters. This story was science fiction but as I read it kept me leaning that at this time in our lives things like this could be true and real. It’s about a bio-physicist Dr. Victor Frank, and his wife Marsha was having trouble conceiving a baby and than David was born. After almost loosing her life the delivery Doctor had to do a complete hysterectomy on Marsha. However, three years later Victor wanted another son to him David was not the gifted son he wished for.

Victor was working on some experiments dealing with the genetic structure that would produce a genius baby. He talked Marsha into using her eggs with his gene on a surrogate mother. Unknown to anyone Victor had this all planned out so he could create the brilliant child he wanted. The pregnancy went well with the woman they choose but it didn’t take long for Marsha to notice strange things about this son compared to David. It was a fast pace read with many exciting events around every corner. The book was a page turner and wait till you meet VC and see what his father created…. ( )

For once it's a Robin Cook book that isn't about a corporation or hospital screwing patients over to save money.

In Mutation a scientist creates a genetically modified baby with extra genes designed to make it of superior intelligence, however the child seems to grow up to have no conscience and embarks on a pattern of ever increasing odd behaviours.

Pretty good. ( )

A throw away read. I read this back in either junior high or highschool and thought it was wicked cool.
Now, it is blase. Pedestrian writing, caricaturization[if that is even a word] that wasn't intended to be caricaturization, and a totally shallow plot make this a complete throw away read. Still enjoyed it, just not nearly as much. ( )

I read this book on a whim, grabbing it off a shelf at the library. I loved this book and became a life long fan of Robin Cook. The twist at the end I never saw coming. This book is an amazing sci fi medical thriller and you will be hooked. It's on my shelf to this day and a must read for everyone. ( )
