First pure fantasy book I've read in---a startlingly long time. Taking me a bit to get back into the conventions, but it's worthwhile.

Okay, I did like it, but the ending threw me a bit. It was good, readable, interesting, but just didn't quite make the jump from "good" to "great" for me. Possibly my standards are too high. ( )

Okay, I thought this was gonna be some high-fantasy book with 0 romance… safe to say I was wrong. Most of the time I don’t really like romantasy because the romance takes over and there’s not much fantasy left. But in this book it was absolutely perfectly executed. Now bcs I didn’t expect it I lowkey started blushing at some parts of this book (maybe shouldn’t’ve on the train). I love the lore and the religion and I just love reading about the complex concepts. This book enchanted me and I read it in less than three days, it was amazing. Now, if I remember correctly the next book won’t have Yeine as a main character anymore (which I am actually so sad about because I loved her as a character, also might be wrong, still have to check it out) but I can’t wait to continue and explore more of nk jemisin’s writing ( )

Wow, love the mythos and the characters. The storyline had me hooked from the first few chapters. One of those, can't put down books. On to the next ones! ( )

Quick Word: So many people had praised this book that I picked it up wary of disappointment. And yet, I found it a refreshing, original novel with engaging ideas and characters. ( )
