The Day the Earth Was Silent

Who says we can't make a difference? Who says it would be too much trouble or cost too much to try? Not a group of children who have created a new flag that could represent & celebrate the earth. They want to share their flag with all people, but are rebuffed with "Why try?" statements from those in power. Still, the children continue to ask "Why not try?" until they are heard. THE DAY THE EARTH WAS SILENT is a prose poem that lyrically & thoughtfully shows how a symbol can unite & activate individuals, small groups, & large masses. The book lends itself to authentic discussions, writings, art projects, & environmental engagements wherein children see a problem & then reach success, not by simply studying the problem, & not by seeking to solve the problem, but by contributing to a possible solution.
