Time, fashion and different performance spaces have created an endless number of variations in the production of Shakespeare's plays. In six pop-up scenes, this beautiful book shows how performances have been presented from Shakespeare's time to our own and each on a different type of stage. It starts with a scene from Macbeth at the original Globe Theatre which was then only eight years old. All the pieces are there to cut out and then they glue together to make pop-up scenes from the best known and best loved of Shakespeare's plays. Each is presented as it would have been produced at a particular time in theatre history. For instance there is Hamlet in a 'periwig' and a A Midsummer Night's Dream with real rabbits on stage. Some extraordinary ideas have been tried out over the years and the book draws attention to the richness both of Shakespeare and of our theatrical heritage.… (mere)
