A timely picture book embracing America’s people of every race, religion, and background.

This colorful book shares the different cultures being brought into America through immigration. This would be a great book to introduce students to the topic of immigration and share stories of how different people can come together to build a strong community. Not only does this book share the differences between cultures, but it also surrounds the theme of how we are all the same. ( )

This book is geared towards younger elementary students. I would suggest 1st to 3rd grade.

This book does not follow one specific character but shows many different cultures and their journey to America. There are many different cultures shown and represented in this book. At the end of the book, in the authors notes, the author talks about her parents journey to immigrate to America.

I would use this book to teach about different cultures and the melting pot concept of America. ( )

Simple and poetically written, almost like a song. We Came to America is about who immigrates to America and highlights some of the different ways people come to the US. Many conversations about why people immigrate, where people have come from and which people have come to America looking for a different way to live. ( )

I enjoyed this book. It talked about how we all came to America, different races, colors, and religions. We all had a reason why we came to America. This book acknowledges that some people came to America to be free, some were brought here in chains to be sold as slaves. It also talked about how we bought all our cultures together, and we created our America. All these different cultures "made America great."
I think this is an excellent book to have in the classroom and to have in general. It shows children that in America we have many different races, colors, and religions, because of this America is excellent and the diversity never ends. ( )
