Here is another book by Kirsten Hall that has no official reading numbers. What you get though are fairly short sentences on every other page. There are 32 words, the most difficult of which are probably: bumblebees, climbing, giant, scared, swinging, and without.
Here is the text from 4 pages:
I'm not scared of climbing trees.
I'm not scared of bumblebees.
The artwork in this book is bright and cheerful. And one of the things I really like about the book is the humor. There are two boys who share what they aren't afraid of. One is white and one is not. They aren't afraid of a lot of things until it comes to a night outdoors in a tent in the backyard. Then an owl's hooting scares them. They clutch their stuffed animals and ask each other what should they do, and the answer is cute.
Nice book to share with youngsters. First graders should be able to work their way through it.
