I only gave one star because it is so terribly written. I gave it the one star because I can read it to special education students using my own words and they understand the story. Please, for the sake of literacy, edit these introductory classics better! ( )

Oliver Twist is a classic piece of English literature about an orphan and a gang of thieves, that everyone should have the chance to read in their lifetime. Unfortunately, the original text may be too difficult or mature for younger readers to enjoy and comprehend. Les Martin has adapted this classic story and transformed it into an abridged version for young readers. The first thing I liked about the book is its language. Although the original text uses terms that are advanced, this book simplifies the vocabulary without losing the spirit of the original novel. The second reason I liked the book was the way that it still incorporated illustrations on to the pages. The illustrations are simple and in black and white but give relatable images to readers so that they can understand and enjoy the book. They can also allow the reader to imagine what each character may look like, which is very important. Overall the big idea of the story is to show a young boys journey to find out who he really is. This is an enthralling and eye-catching novel about a young orphan who must find his way in the world among those who hate, and those who love him. In this novel beloved by millions for generations you will find great intrest!
