Emily Stone has a mission in life, tracking down child killers and then anonymously emailing the authorities info on the killers to lead to their arrest.
After one such report, she's run off the road in a hit and run accident.
Her car is a wreck and when police ask about the gun and equipment in her car, she tells them she's a writer and needs her weapons for safety, the other equipment to help with stories.
When she gets home, her friend, Theresa Blandon, tells her about a crazy man, Donald Everett, who'se moved into the neighborhood and is intimidating the neighbors.

Det. Ray Lopez is at the desk when Emily goes to the station to ask for police to look into Everett's background. At first, he's preoccupied but later checks and finds many complaints against Everett. He's also somewhat captivated by Emily.
Emily can't seem to stop herself. At this point, her motivation is still unclear to the reader but not long after being run off the road and hospitalized, she's back hunting serial killers. She goes to Pajaro, Arizona and finds a place where killers might committed their crimes. She finds the scene where a woman's body was found after being raped and murdered. She enters a dark building and someone closes the door and locks it. Then a pit bull appears, smashing its body against the door to get to Emily. Em kicks a plywood wall and escapes the building barely getting to her jeep before the dog reaches her.

She finally does something tp get Everett riled up. Her actions in her neighbor's home do not make sense and her unthinking of retribution to her and her neighbors seems illogical.
Emily visits Det. Lopez where he's staying. She tells him about her past, with her parents being murdered and her goal to catch killers. Then she asks Ray if he needs help finding the two serial killers he's looking for.

There is some good action and drama in the book but the character doesn't make sense in others, i.e. going to the place where a woman's body was found without weapons. Her decision against a crazy neighbor is also out of place.
That being said, it is a story hard to read due to the sensitive matter of killers taking lives so easily. Still I give the novel a 31/2 star rating. ( )

Emily Stone works hard at keeping her identity a secret. She is a one-woman task force who uses sophisticated equipment to track down some of the most dangerous child abductors and killers. Once she tracks the evil men down she documents her finds and anonymously emails the information to the police.

When a serial killer pops up in her own small town she takes it upon her self to hunt down the killer. But somehow the killer is on to her and she becomes the hunted.

Compulsion starts out strong and I was eagerly turning the pages but about half-way through the book loses steam and starts to get a little weird. Chase throws in some clues that are meant to throw you off as to who the killer is but it doesn’t seem to do anything other than muddy the story up. The climax was actually sort of anti-climactic but the ending pulls everything together again and it turns out pretty good. I feel that with just a little more tweaking this could have been a great book but I still recommend it for all suspense and thriller lovers. ( )
