My 1942 edition includes a supplement at the back showing maps of the German and Japanese occupied areas. It is interesting to look back at the US state maps to see parts of cities shown as separate--such as Cloverdale and Capital Heights shown as separate from Montgomery, Alabama. There isn't enough color in these maps to make them wholly satisfactory, but they are fairly well detailed. I like that it doesn't take up a lot of room with non-map data (e.g., the crops grown in a particular part of the world, minerals mined, etc.) I always think an Atlas should just stick to being a book of maps. I can find out all that other stuff somewhere else, but as fascinating as Google Maps is, there is still something about a printed map that is endlessly fascinating.
