It was Sunday and her crew could hear the muted peal of church bells from the city. Otherwise, Veracruz seemed to be slumbering in the warm sunlight, a jumble of bright, pastel buildings between the sand hills and the sea. To the men on the Minnesota, it was a depressingly familiar scene. | |
