This book is a simple book with few words and many of the words repeat often as well. Great for early independent readers since it talks about sharing as well. There is some educational parts as well, the children need to problem solve as they are splitting the 12 cookies with each other, but more and more kids ring the doorbell and enter the "equation". It is a cute lighthearted book that I think Pre k - first grade would enjoy.

This is a cute book about children eating and sharing cookies. At first, Sam and Victoria have twelve cookie to share between them. However, as the doorbell rings, friends start coming over who want some cookies too. The number of cookies per child starts getting smaller and smaller as more children come. Finally there are twelve children and only twelve cookies to go around. The doorbell rings once more and Grandma comes over with more cookies for everyone. This book is great to teach children about sharing and would be a great way to introduce fractions by having children do the math for the cookie portions.

I liked this simple division book quite well. The kids are initially excited to get a half-dozen cookies each -- but their faces become glummer and glummer as more and more friends come over and the cookies are divided among more people. But there's a happy ending! Kids and company are ethnically diverse. ( )

Mom has made cookies: a dozen to share between two kids. But then the doorbell rings and rings and rings as neighbors and cousins pour in, the cookies are divided between more and more people until there aren't enough for everyone to have a whole one. Then grandma shows up with a bunch more.
This is a nice and concrete way to introduce division to young readers. Everyone loves cookies and can wrap their head around evenly distributing them. ( )

While the kids are splitting the dozen of cookies with one another, the doorbell rings. As more friends come in, they share the cookies evenly as the doorbell continues to ring. The Doorbell Rang is a cute book that can help readers learn about division, while imagining the taste and smell of grandma's cookies. ( )
