The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton is a book about a house that built in the country. Over time this house began being apart of a busy city as the enviorment was starting to be populated. After much time this house got to be moved from the city and back into a nice little countryside. From the outside this book may not seem like it could be used in a mathematics classroom. However, upon reading this book I think this is a great book to use to describe transformations in the classroom. To be specific, translations would be a great connection to this book because of the house moving from one location to another. This book is a great way to explain how translations only affect the location of a figure and not the appearance. ( )

A little house in the country observes the rhythm of the seasons and the activities of its inhabitants as the once-faraway city draws closer and closer, eventually engulfing it. But a descendant of the house's original builder arranges to move it back into the country once again. ( )

Life is constantly changing, The Little House shows the progression of time it what once was. She teaches us that what's truly important is what's on the inside. Life is ever changing, be you and you will be happy. ( )

This is a remake of Virginia Lee Burton's The Little House a book that has been around for many years. This book tells of a little house that was built in the country and its life. It discusses how the season changed as the little house sat happily and watched. Unfortunately as time went by the country became the city and the little house seemed to have been forgotten about, until a family decided to move it back to the country. Once again this is a book about change and how to adjust. This book would be useful in both language classes and even as an introductory activity for science about the seasons. ( )

Interesting book about a little house built (apparently in the 19th century) that lives through the seasons and, ultimately, the changing of times and urbanization of countryside. The story actually gets pretty sad there for a while, but has a happy ending when the great-great-grand-child of the original builder finds the house and relocates it to the countryside. [return][return]Useful certainly for discussions of urban sprawl, country life, growth and change, development of farmland. [return][return]The "litlte house" is gendered female, so it's a female protagonist. But since the little house is wholly passive, while it's a sympathetic portrayal, it's not what I would call a strong female role model. Be sure to pair with inanimate females that are shown as strong actors in the world -- e.g., maybe "The Little Engine That Could", if you're on a nostalgia kick. ( )
