This book is a very simple book to read. The text is large and the pictures match the text well. This book has a lot of useful text features, There is a glossary, bold words, pronunciation guides. This would be a great text to use as a mentor text assignment. This would be a good book to use in small reading groups for a class that is exploring different genres. The book also touches on Charles' law and gives a brief introduction to more complex science concepts ( )

I think this was a nice beginner book for younger students. It is a nonfiction book about Matter. It was neatly organized and had accurate information about this specific topic. I think the language was just right for 1st and 2nd graders and I do not think they would have much trouble with understanding the information given. Although the story was neatly organized and accurate, I think it could have done a better job with engaging the reader a little bit more. It was a very basic/dry reading. There was a paragraph on one page, a "fun fact" on every other page, and a photograph to go along with the paragraph. To me, this felt like a typical layout for an introduction informational book. The information was great and precise, but it was not very entertaining. ( )
