This story goes through the entire alphabet, and it talks about the different words starting with that certain letter. What stood out to me was how Grimes didn't just list simple words like "A is for apple". I really liked how she stepped out and listed words that I wouldn't even think of, such as "arcade" or "Afghans". I started to wonder why Grimes chose the title of this book to be "C is for City", and then it dawned on me that this story goes throughout the city, and Grimes writes about the different things you can do or see in the city.
I think this would be a great book for young children learning the alphabet, just because it lets them explore. On top of that, I think the illustrations are phenomenal, and it definitely ties the whole story together. ( )

C is for City is a delightful book filled with colorful images and wording that can be a great book for emergent readers and educators of emergent readers. It allows students to be introduced to reading as well as using something that students will be familiar with such as the alphabet. Grimes whimsical nature of writing in this story is actually very different from her very soulful words, but in a good way. ( )

In this book, each letter represents several items you can find in a city.

This book is a great way to learn the alphabet because children can relate to the different items that letter represents because they have seen these items. This makes it easier for the children to remember the order as well. The illustrations enhance the story because it shows what items are being talked about.

This book's illustrations are alive, and the text re-renders the standard alphabet poem in ways that extend vocabulary. Appropriate for gifted and non-gifted students alike. The city setting offers multi-cultural extension possibilities, and the list of words at the end brings the potential of object location into play, making this book doable for potentially younger audiences. This book is all about different things in the city. This book was great, because it uses a ton of vocabulary, and the illustrations are very detailed and support the text.
