Think I was given this as a Christmas or Birthday present, as I dont remember buying it myself. Start of what looks like a series, a young woman is willed a house by the elderly woman who was her mentor. It introduces her to a large (and yet very small) community that seems to know everything before it happens and Ramsey the lawyer seems to have been earmarked as a potential suitor. The story deals with her beginning to settle in, whilst trying to deal with Ramsey and her attraction to his cousin Luke. Meanwhile they start to dig into Miss Edi's past. Lots of threads remain untied at the end of the book, possibly willing you to read the next book in the series. e.g. how did she get a $50,000 mortgage with no known income (ok, the house is large but was going to eat up the money). And I was always taught: never introduce a new character or subject in the last quarter of the book. So why do we find out about Luke's other job in the last chapter? In the same chapter we've met Joce's grandfather for the first time? I enjoyed this book as far as it went. The main relationship happened without really much developement. It was kind of a "why exactly are you in love?" feeling. I liked the secondary romance that took place in 1944 better. There was a conflict in the middle that was sort of a non-conflict. I sort of wanted to ask the heroine "exactly what are you upset about?" Still the writing was good as to be expected of a long time author. The story carried along swiftly and was easy to read. I read later one's in this series and was quite interested. I especially liked Tris and Jecca's story. I had probably read this one earlier but couldn't remember and wanted to read this. Somehow Jocelyn. Her being an "old lady" like Edilean. The romance between her and Luke. None of it really pulled me in. I especially think trying to get in two timelines didn't work that well in this story. In my opinion, in this series, some of the really good one's are Mike and Sara's story, Tris and Jecca's story and Gemma and Colin's story. Somehow Jocelyn and Luke didn't quite cut it and neither did Edilean and Dave. The ending and the big reveal seemed a bit too predictable. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
