Illustrations by Margaret G. Hays, John Fitz and Jane Allen Boyer. Sue Chaplin & Dady Chaplin, previous owner with handwritten menu at REP. ( ) My book belonged to my grandmother. It isn't in the best of shape - loose pages and a small amount of crayon on a couple places - but it is precious. The Kitchen People are humanized cooking utensils, many of which are no longer in use in today's kitchens. They all talk to Mary Frances and help her learn to cook. The spine label says "Easy Steps in Cooking" and the front cover says "Easy Steps in Cooking for Big and Little Girls, or Adventures Among the Kitchen People." The title pages says, "...or Mary Frances Among the Kitchen People." Couldn't find listing under any of those titles, so I went with "Mary Frances Cookbook" for my cover picture, although you only see that title in a drawing on the first page. Mary Frances is a young American girl in the early 1900's who wants to learn to cook for her family when her mother becomes ill and is taken away to recuperate. Her mother had fulfilled one of her motherly duties by writing cooking instructions for her daughter to use, should the need arise, in a little cook book. When the little girl tries to use the cook book, she is unsure of herself and wishes she had help. The magic begins when the cooking utensils come to life. Aunty Rolling Pin, Toaster Man, Sauce Pan and all of the Kitchen People take turns teaching Mary Frances their area of expertise. Their antics and information transform cooking into an adventure in this lovely story sprinkled with good, easy-to-follow recipes, cooking tips, table manners and charming black and white illustrations. Learn along with Mary Frances as she prepares a tea party for her dolls with Thimble Biscuits, folds napkins to look like Cinderella Slippers, properly sets a pretty table, makes lunch for her father, and ultimately prepares a homecoming dinner for her mother's return. The Mary Frances Cook Book 100th Anniversary Edition has been restored, updated, and expanded to include a new introduction, larger format, enhanced graphics, cooking temperatures for modern ovens, and bonus patterns to make a cooking cap and apron like the ones Mary Frances wore. The complete Mary Frances 100th Anniversary collection includes The Mary Frances Cook Book 100th Anniversary Edition, The Mary Frances Sewing Book 100th Anniversary Edition, The Mary Frances Housekeeper 100th Anniversary Edition, The Mary Frances Garden Book 100th Anniversary Edition, The Mary Frances Knitting and Crocheting Book 100th Anniversary Edition, The Mary Frances First Aid Book 100th Anniversary Edition and The Mary Frances Story Book 100th Anniversary Edition.
