Now this is the Mandie that I remember.

One of the things that I have noticed in rereading this series is that they are a lot more cheesy than I had previously remembered. Of course because I read the series so long ago, this was to be expected, but the first three books have been especially poorly paced.

This book was definitely more of what I think of when I remember reading Mandie. This book and the one that follows were two of my favorites, and I genuinely enjoyed reading the Forbidden Attic.

Mrs. Taft is a lovely addition to the cast (we first meet her in this book) and I just love all of her sass and awesomeness!

I'm pretty sure (my memory is a little foggy) that this is the first Mandie book I ever read and what made me read more of it and love the series growing up. I can't stand the style of writing now and the racism is so blatant it hurts, but I have fond memories of Mandie and her adventures. ( )
