Enjoyable, although I wasn't as cracked up as I was by "Ivy and Bean Take Care of the Babysitter." Ivy has become fixated on communing with animals (who hasn't, as a kid?), which she thinks means being very good like Francis of Assisi. But, since she can't be that good on her own, she decides that she can be equivalently good by reforming someone very bad -- and so she gets Bean to be Very Bad. The kids get into various neighborhood antics, which were pretty amusing. A fine entry in the series. ( ) The Ivy and Bean series is about two friends and their adventures together. "Ivy and Bean: Bound to be Bad" was a very funny book. Bean is having trouble staying out of trouble in this book. She meets up with her friend Ivy, and Ivy explains to Bean how when you are truly good, wild animals will befriend you. So, Ivy and Bean make up a plan to be truly good. When they realize that no matter how many times they are good, animals still don't befriend them, they change their ways, and start to be bad instead! This book would be good for book clubs, especially a club that focused on characters, character traits, and predictions of the story line. The chapters are long enough to provide a challenge to the beginning reader, but not so long that the reader may loose interest or become frustrated. In addition to the use of basic vocabulary, there are wonderful illustrations to support the beginning reader. This book is part of a series, giving readers an opportunity to explore more about the characters and their traits. Ivy and Bean are engaging characters and readers will admire their antics. Like I have said about the other four books, I'm not a big fan, but my daughter is! This one is rough for my parenting style - kids being bad on purpose. Geez. I want to put the kibosh on #6, but I guess you have to pick your battles And she did get an impressive 8 out of 10 on the quiz after the story! Best friends Ivy and Bean learn that being very good, or very bad, can be a real challenge when they set out to become like a man Ivy heard about who was so pure of heart that birds and animals followed him. No library descriptions found. |
