what a great book! while i wish i would have read it sooner, i know the Lord sovereignly planned for me to read it in this phase of my walk. what great reminders to live in response to His effective grace! a must read for all believers! "The pursuit of holiness requires sustained and vigorous effort. It allows for no indolence, no lethargy, no halfhearted commitment, and no laissez faire attitude toward even the smallest sin. in short it demands the highest priority in the life of a christian because to be holy is to be like Christ... God's goal for every Christian.... the pursuit of holiness must be anchored in the grace of God; otherwise it is doomed to failure." ( )

Writing: 5.0; Theme: 5.0; Content: 5.0; Language: 5.0; Overall: 5.0; What a wonderful tome on Christian living, and more specifically, holiness. Each and every chapter in this book builds upon the one before in such a wonderful manner. This book is chalked full of Biblical principles. This has to be one of the best books on the subject of holiness and the grace that God offers in order for us to be successful at this venture. We cannot live the life that God desires of us without God's grace and the power given to us through the Holy Spirit. Excellent. Highly recommend. ***August 3, 2019*** ( )

Hand in hand with other books on the spiritual disciplines, this brings the balance of recognizing that our disciplines are meaningless without the work of Christ; they must bring us closer to God to have purpose in our spiritual growth. While the author acknowledges that we have a role in disciplining ourselves in study, prayer, etc., he reminds over and over to stop putting the pressure on ourselves to perform and look to God and seek to develop our relationship with Him. To my dear wife
Jane,
whom God gave to me
in the "afternoon" of my life

And to
Grace Peterson
a "senior saint" who has been
a faithful prayer supporter
for many years

And most of all
"To him who loves us and has freed us
from our sins by his blood...
to him be glory and power
for ever and ever! Amen."

[Preface] Shortly after my book "The Pursuit of Holiness" was published in 1978, I was invited to give a series of ten lectures on that subject at a church in our city.
As I was sitting in the doctor's waiting room one day, my eye was drawn to a remarkable picture of a man being sculpted.
