But when she decides to wear one on a very special day – the Queen was passing by her town, people try to persuade her to wear something more acceptable. As she sticks to her own ways of getting dressed the town gets into a complete mess getting the Queens eyes to stop, noting the town for the first time. Brumbeau uses a mixture of formal language and comedy to involve the readers in the plot making the story hilarious. Marcken displays scenes full of details and colors mixing Miss Hunnicutt’s hat with its surroundings.
